Reflecting on my career to date, I recognise a journey that began at a very early stage and has
been guided by a genuine passion for dentistry and orthodontics. I first entered the profession
as a trainee dental nurse during Transition Year in secondary school, an experience that proved
pivotal. From those early days in practice, I became immersed in the clinical environment and
quickly realised that this was a career path I felt deeply drawn to. That initial exposure sparked a
lasting enthusiasm for dentistry and laid the foundation for my professional ambitions.
I am currently working as a Dental Nurse and Treatment Coordinator at Alexandra Dental,
Limerick, where I continue to develop my clinical, organisational, and communication skills.
Supporting patients throughout their orthodontic journey has reinforced the importance of trust,
clarity, and empathy. I find particular fulfilment in helping patients feel informed and confident in
their treatment decisions, and this role has strengthened my confidence and professional
identity.
Previously, I worked as an Orthodontic Nurse Specialist in a private dental hospital in Dublin, an
experience that significantly shaped my development. Working in a busy orthodontic department
exposed me to complex cases and multidisciplinary teamwork, strengthening my clinical
competence, attention to detail, and resilience. This role confirmed my desire to specialise in
orthodontics and deepened my appreciation for high standards of care within structured clinical
systems.
A central focus throughout my career has been orthodontics and clear aligner therapy. I have
completed 26 Invisalign certifications and over 25 additional orthodontic and aligner-related
qualifications, including training in 3Shape Clear Aligner and Appliance Designer. These
achievements reflect a sustained commitment to lifelong learning and keeping pace with
advances in digital orthodontic treatment.
Receiving a British Orthodontic Society (BOS) Award has been a particularly meaningful
milestone. This recognition affirmed the effort I have invested in my professional development
and strengthened my confidence in my abilities within orthodontic practice. It has further
motivated me to continue contributing positively to the profession and to uphold the standards
and values promoted by the BOS.
My career has also been enriched by international experience in Bermuda, which enhanced my
adaptability, cultural awareness, and clinical confidence. Alongside this, my HIQA certification in
infection prevention and control underpins my commitment to patient safety and clinical
governance.
Overall, my career journey reflects steady growth rooted in early inspiration, dedication, and
reflective practice. From my first experience as a trainee dental nurse in secondary school to my
current role, my passion for orthodontics has only strengthened. I remain committed to ongoing
learning, professional excellence, and delivering patient-centred orthodontic care.
